Can bread truly be zero fat? Yes, yes it can!
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to find store bought zero fat bread! This helped save a ton of time and reduced the need to have the oven on during the summer heat.
I used this bread for everything from morning toast, to sandwiches, and most recently bread crumbs for breaded dishes.
Ingredients:
12 slices of zero fat bread
Handful of each: fresh basil, fresh oregano, fresh chives
4-6 cloves of crushed garlic
Preparation:
"Over" toast bread. Toast a little more than you normally would, but do not burn the bread.
Place bread in a blender or food processor, along with clean dry herbs and garlic.
Process until the bread becomes fine crumbs.
These bread crumbs can be used within a week. If you want to save time in the future make a double, or triple batch and store in the freezer. I have used this recipe to bread pickles, chicken, fish, onion rings. The possibilities are endless!
**Another quicker option is to locate fat -free bread crumbs in the store. Panko style crumbs can also be found fat-free!
